Troubleshoot Slow WordPress Pages

Measure before changing settings

  1. Identify the slow page and whether the delay affects the front end, admin, form editor or all of them.
  2. Repeat the test and record approximate load time.
  3. Check WordPress Site Health and server resource metrics.
  4. Review PHP error logs for memory exhaustion, repeated errors or timeouts.
  5. Check whether the page loads many large images, embeds, form entries or dashboard queries.
  6. Test caching and optimisation settings on staging before changing them on a live operational workflow.

CHKM8 considerations

Large evidence images, complex forms, many dashboard widgets and broad queries can add load. Optimise images where appropriate, limit dashboards to the information users need, and paginate large lists. Do not disable security or access controls simply to improve a benchmark.
